How Much Sodium Metabisulfite to Sanitize
To sanitize equipment with sodium metabisulfite, a common method is to mix:
- 1 tablespoon (about 15 grams) of sodium metabisulfite
- with 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of water
This solution is used to sanitize winemaking, brewing, or food processing equipment.
Instructions
- Dissolve the sodium metabisulfite completely in water.
- Soak or rinse the equipment with the solution.
- Let it stand for at least 2 minutes for effective sanitation.
- No rinse is necessary for most uses, but allow equipment to air dry.
Note: Always use in a well-ventilated area, as fumes can be irritating.
